Question: What made you become interested in writing?
My mother read to me from the time I was 3. I had stacks of books, probably taller than I was! This fired up my imagination at an early age.
Question: What fascinates you about it?
I am fascinated by how real my characters become to me and to my readers. Although my first two books are fiction, I still have readers ask me if the stories are true.
Question: Where do you get your ideas for your books?
"A Little Company," which is for older readers, was largely inspired
by my mother's childhood and my love for local history. My kids' book,
"Tricked," was inspired by my love of Halloween and the neighborhood I
used to live in.
Question: What kind of books do you write?
I write thriller/ suspense, fiction for adults and kids, and personal memoirs.
Question: What kind of books do you like to read?
Almost anything I can get my hands on: thrillers, classics (like Poe and Dickens), famous biographies, whatever!
Question: What process do you go through when you write a book?
I send chapters to my husband for proof-reading as I finish them. I'm always revising as I go along.
Question: Can you tell us a little about your children’s book?
"Tricked" is about a brother and sister: Patrick, age 11 and Mariah,
age 6, who find themselves in grave danger on Halloween night, when they
stray off the beaten path...
Question: What advice do you have for kids who want to become writers when they grow up?
Pursue traditional publishers, but educate yourself on their submission policies before sending them your manuscript. Look into self-publishing as well, like I did, but prepare to work HARD to be your own agent/ publicist. And never stop writing, even if it's a daily blog that you update every day!
